Backchannel Talks Between Government and PTI Gain Momentum, Claims Journalist

ISLAMABAD: Backchannel contacts between the federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have reportedly intensified, with claims emerging that both sides are moving towards a possible political understanding that could ease tensions over the proposed long march and the possibility of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a post on X by journalist Azam Malik, significant progress has been made in behind-the-scenes negotiations between the government and the opposition, with discussions reportedly moving towards a possible give-and-take arrangement.
The journalist claimed that PTI could postpone or cancel its planned October 4 long march in exchange for the federal government withdrawing its options of imposing an emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Azam Malik further claimed that, under the proposed understanding, the possibility of declaring Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi’s, Bani Gala residence a sub-jail was being considered.
According to the journalist, the reported arrangement could also include a comprehensive medical check-up for the PTI founder.
He further claimed that the possibility of the early release of Imran Khan’s sisters, who have been in custody, had also emerged as part of the reported developments.
The claims, if materialised, could mark a significant development in the ongoing political standoff between the federal government and PTI, particularly amid tensions surrounding the October 4 protest and the prospect of constitutional measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
However, the reported developments are based on the journalist’s claims on social media, and no official confirmation of a final agreement between the government and PTI was included in the information provided.
