Balochistan Women’s Commission and Islamic Relief Sign MoU to End Child Marriages and Empower Women

Quetta/Islamabad (Daily Qudrat): Chairperson of the Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women (BCSW), Kiran Baloch, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Islamic Relief in Islamabad. The MoU aims to strengthen joint efforts to end child and early marriages in Balochistan, protect the rights of girls, empower women, and improve their access to basic facilities and opportunities. Commission member Mushtaq Mengal was also present on the occasion.

Under the MoU, cooperation between the Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women and Islamic Relief will be promoted in various sectors related to the protection of women’s and girls’ rights. On this occasion, Chairperson Kiran Baloch said that child marriage is a major social issue that can have negative effects on girls’ education, health, protection, and future opportunities. She said that legislation alone is not enough to address this issue; awareness in society, involvement of parents and communities, institutional cooperation, and effective policy measures are also necessary.

She said that the Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women is playing an effective role under its constitutional and legal mandate for the protection of women’s and girls’ rights, the promotion of gender equality, and the empowerment of women. The MoU with Islamic Relief can prove to be an important collaboration for achieving this goal.

Kiran Baloch expressed the commitment that BCSW will further expand cooperation with government institutions, non-governmental organizations, development partners, and civil society to resolve the problems faced by women and girls in Balochistan. She said that through joint efforts, a strategy can be formulated that promotes the protection of girls’ rights, the continuity of their education, and opportunities for a dignified and empowered life for women.
