Govt Warns PTI Ahead of Sept 27 Islamabad March: Talal Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD:Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has warned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against creating a law-and-order situation during its planned march towards Islamabad on September 27.

Speaking on Geo News programme *Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath*, Chaudhry said the government did not want to deal with PTI protesters in the same manner as in previous demonstrations.

“We do not want to bring PTI to Islamabad this time and then have to explain things to them by holding their ears,” he remarked.

Referring to security and counterterrorism matters, the minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif holds a meeting on counterterrorism every three months. He claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi did not attend these meetings but later approached the federal government seeking funds and an increased share under the National Finance Commission (NFC).

Chaudhry said the KP government should first account for the approximately Rs700 billion it had already received under the NFC before seeking a larger share.

Commenting on the planned PTI march, the minister said the government was prepared to maintain the state’s writ when September 27 arrived.

“We do not want to explain things to PTI by holding their ears this time. When September 27 comes, it will become clear how the state establishes its writ,” he said.

The PTI has announced a long march to Islamabad for September 27. Party leaders have described the planned demonstration as a peaceful political and constitutional struggle, while the government has warned that protesters will not be allowed to occupy public roads or disrupt the capital.

The Islamabad High Court has also ruled that no political party has a lawful right to occupy public roads, highways or government buildings in connection with political protests. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has separately warned that organisers could be held responsible for any loss of life during the demonstration.
