Pakistan Will Go to Any Extent to Defend Saudi Arabia: DG ISPR
RAWALPINDI:Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said Pakistan will go “to any extent” to defend Saudi Arabia against attacks, stressing that Islamabad stands fully with the Kingdom.
In an interview with Arab News, the DG ISPR said Pakistan was present to protect the Holy Mosques and would continue to defend Saudi Arabia against any aggression. He said there should be no doubt about Pakistan’s commitment to the security of the Kingdom and the Haramain Sharifain.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi security was unconditional and reflected what he described as a deep-rooted and historic bond between the peoples, armed forces and political leaderships of the two countries.
He said the mechanism for implementing defence commitments was not normally disclosed publicly. In the event of an attack, he explained, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye would determine their response collectively and implement the agreed course of action.
The DG ISPR also said there was no reason for anyone to object to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, describing it as defensive in nature and aimed at strengthening regional stability and peace. Pakistan has previously stated that the agreement is intended for collective deterrence and is not directed against any particular country.
He added that Pakistan already had other defence agreements and arrangements involving mutual cooperation and security commitments.
The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and recent attacks involving Saudi Arabia. Pakistan has simultaneously been stressing diplomatic efforts to seek a peaceful and negotiated resolution to the wider regional crisis.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has also reiterated that operational details concerning the use of force under defence agreements remain confidential, while maintaining that the Makkah agreement is defensive and intended to strengthen collective security cooperation.
