Revelation: Rs 12 Billion Illegally Extorted in Verification of Citizens’ Documents
Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — A revelation has been made that Rs 12 billion was illegally extorted in the verification of citizens’ documents. Citizens were being charged Rs 800,000 for using illegal channels for document verification.
According to news shared on X by Geo News senior journalist Azaz Syed, an investigative report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Geo News has alleged that during one year, Rs 12 billion was illegally extorted from citizens through illegal means for document verification.
The report identified the extortion of money from the public. Citizens were being charged Rs 800,000 for using illegal channels for document verification.
Similarly, a total of Rs 12 billion was illegally collected in one year.
According to the report, a four-member committee headed by Director General Audit and Inspection Dr. Ahmed Ali Sarohi has identified a “mafia” allegedly involved in collecting money from the public.

According to the investigative report, up to Rs 800,000 was allegedly charged from citizens for getting documents verified through illegal means. The report also recorded the names and statements of officials linked to the alleged network. An official working in the Secretary Foreign Affairs’ office is also among those named in the report. DGs of various departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a former Additional Secretary, and former diplomats have also been mentioned in the report.
According to officials, a private courier company allegedly had links with an officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The report was sent to the Secretary Foreign Affairs’ office in July; however, according to sources, it was not sent to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) or any other investigative agency. Despite the committee’s recommendations, some officers allegedly linked to the matter were later posted abroad.
Geo News also sent a questionnaire to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson to seek their position on the matter, but no response has been received so far.
