Libya Oil Production Hit as Guards Shut Key Pipeline Valve
TRIPOLI:Libya’s oil production has been disrupted after Petroleum Facilities Guards, responsible for protecting the country’s oil infrastructure, shut a valve on a major crude oil pipeline in protest over their demands.
The closure halted operations at two oil fields and a pumping station, further affecting Libya’s oil production and supply.
Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) warned that it could declare a complete shutdown if crude supplies remain interrupted. Meanwhile, the Petroleum Facilities Guards threatened to further reduce oil production if their demands are not accepted.
The guards are demanding that they be placed under the financial and administrative control of the National Oil Corporation.
The development comes amid wider disruptions to regional oil supplies. Saudi Arabia has also reportedly halted crude oil shipments to Europe following drone attacks by an Iraqi militia on the Saudi East-West oil pipeline.
The latest disruptions have raised concerns over the stability of crude oil supplies from the region and their potential impact on international energy markets.
