Electric Bike Scheme: Monthly Installment Set at Rs3,028 for Students
LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved a monthly installment of approximately Rs3,028 for students under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Electric Bike Scheme.
According to media reports, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formally launched the Chief Minister Electric Bike Scheme for students across the province. Under the initiative, students enrolled in public and private educational institutions will be provided electric bikes at subsidized prices and on easy installments.
More than 100,000 male and female students from over 33,000 public and private schools, colleges and universities across Punjab will be eligible for the scheme.
The total price of an electric bike has been fixed at Rs199,000. However, after a subsidy from the Punjab government, students will have to pay only Rs109,000.
The subsidized amount will be recovered over 36 months, or three years, in easy installments, bringing the monthly payment to approximately Rs3,028.
According to officials, the Punjab government will bear the costs of insurance, markup, registration and other related expenses to prevent students from facing any additional financial burden.
The electric bikes will be available in different colors, while pink-colored bikes have also been specially allocated for female students.
Online registration for the scheme began on September 5, 2026, and eligible students can submit their applications through the relevant Punjab government online portal.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative aims to provide students, particularly female students, with affordable, safe and convenient transportation so that commuting difficulties do not become an obstacle to their education.
She added that the initiative would also help promote the use of environmentally friendly electric vehicles across Punjab.
