This Government Has Brought Tears to the Eyes of the People: Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has strongly criticised the incumbent federal and provincial governments, calling for a political and constitutional reset and fresh, transparent elections under a national government.

Speaking to the media after a hearing at an anti-terrorism court, Fawad Chaudhry said 15 children were burned at PIMS Hospital, yet, according to him, the two ministers, Mustafa Kamal and Mukhtar Ahmed Bhart, were still holding their positions.

He also criticised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for not visiting the affected children at PIMS Hospital, alleging that the prime minister instead departed for his 43rd foreign trip.

“These people are constantly catching flights, travelling from one country to another,” he said.

Fawad Chaudhry claimed that the government had not come to power through the people’s votes and therefore had little concern for the public.

He said people were being killed on a daily basis while continued increases in electricity and petroleum prices had “brought tears to the eyes of the Pakistani people.”

The former minister also criticised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying he had presented 17 budgets during his political career but still appeared to have no clear idea about what should be done to move the country forward.

Taking a jibe at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the Punjab government, Fawad Chaudhry alleged that corruption involving Rs10,000 to Rs15,000 was treated as a major offence, while corruption allegedly involving Rs400 million to Rs500 million was described as kickbacks and therefore not considered corruption.

He further called for formal talks with major political leaders, including Imran Khan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, over the proposal to create new provinces following a recent speech in the Sindh Assembly.

Fawad Chaudhry stressed that Pakistan’s existing political system required an immediate reset and argued that only free and fair elections under a national government could establish a genuinely representative government chosen by the people.
