Responsibility for Balochistan’s Security Must Be Assessed Fairly: Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman

QUETTA: Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan leader Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman has questioned the distribution of responsibility for the province’s security situation, calling for a balanced assessment of the roles of all relevant authorities.
In a statement, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said ordinary people often do not know who is hiding in their gardens, streets or markets.
He questioned the basis for holding local people responsible for security incidents, saying that if a gardener or owner is held responsible for what happens inside a garden, then those responsible for running Balochistan should also be held accountable.
“Those receiving Rs80 billion—are they not responsible?” he asked, also questioning the responsibility of those receiving VIP vehicles and enjoying government resources.
He said it was unfair to hold the owner of a garden responsible while ignoring those who receive billions of rupees and have greater authority and resources.
Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman stressed that the security situation in Balochistan should be discussed in a balanced manner and that responsibility should be determined by considering the powers, resources and duties of all concerned parties.
