Iran Cannot Completely Shut International Trade Routes, Says US Vice President
US Vice President JD Vance has said Iran does not have the capability to completely shut down international trade routes, amid continued tensions in the region.
Speaking to US media, Vance said Washington has several options for dealing with Iran, adding that one of the most effective approaches would be to make Tehran pay a price for disrupting oil and gas trade.
Vance maintained that Iran lacks the ability to completely close international trade routes.
The US vice president also said that between 7 million and 15 million barrels of oil are currently being transported through the Strait of Hormuz each day.
His comments come amid continued international concern over the security of the strategically important waterway, which is a major route for global oil shipments.
