“We Will Take Four Million People to Islamabad, Not Two Million”: KP CM Sohail Afridi

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has announced that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will take four million people to Islamabad as part of its planned long march on September 27.

Addressing participants of the PTI’s street movement in Hangu, Sohail Afridi criticised the government and administration over the handling of a Supreme Court decision concerning the medical treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan.

He alleged that the government had “thrown the decision into the dustbin” and “slapped the judges in the face” by failing to implement the order issued by three Supreme Court judges.

Afridi claimed that the incident had once again demonstrated that the country’s “untouchables” considered themselves above the Constitution and law.

He said that whenever a court, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or any other institution issued an order against his political opponents, police arrived within minutes and implementation followed quickly.

“Courts gave two days for Imran Khan’s treatment, but those who consider themselves above the Constitution and law did not implement the decision,” he alleged.

The KP chief minister said that if the courts could not bring the “untouchables” before the law, they should not have the authority to punish ordinary citizens.

He argued that there could not be one law for the weak and another for the powerful in the same country.

Afridi said Imran Khan’s struggle for “real freedom” was aimed at establishing equality before the law. He urged the judiciary to consider where the country was heading, claiming that farmers were facing difficulties while industrialists were moving their capital abroad.

“If their decision is to protect the powerful, then we are rebels against that decision,” he said, urging young people to stand up for their future.

Speaking about alleged mistreatment of PTI women workers and leaders, Afridi claimed that Imran Khan’s sisters had been disrespected and said the government could no longer use the “women card.”

“We love Khan to the point of madness, and we will make those responsible pay for every tear shed by his sister,” he said.

Afridi reiterated that the PTI would hold its long march towards Islamabad on September 27, claiming that this time the party would bring four million people to the federal capital.
