Imran Khan’s Hospital Transfer: PTI Files Contempt Petition Against Government

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a contempt of court petition against the government over the transfer of party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan to a hospital for medical examination.
The petition was filed by PTI leaders Salman Akram Raja and Uzair Bhandari, seeking initiation of contempt proceedings over the alleged violation of the Supreme Court’s August 18, 2026 order.
The petition requests the Supreme Court to issue show-cause notices to those allegedly responsible for contempt and direct them to appear personally before the court.
It further asks the court to declare the respondents guilty of contempt of court and award punishment in accordance with the law.
The PTI has also requested the immediate transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a comprehensive medical examination.
The petition further seeks the appointment of a judicial officer or a local commission to ensure implementation of the court’s order.
The PTI maintained that the Supreme Court had directed that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for a medical examination. However, instead of Shifa, the government transferred him to PIMS Hospital, where he underwent a medical examination before being shifted back to Adiala Jail.
The party has argued that the authorities’ actions amounted to non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions and therefore warrant contempt proceedings.
