Woman, Newborn Allegedly Die at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital After Bed Was Not Available; Inquiry Committee Formed
KARACHI: An inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the alleged deaths of a woman and her newborn at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi, reportedly after a bed was not made available to them.
According to hospital officials, the woman gave birth to a baby in the gastroenterology ward, after which both the mother and newborn died.
Doctors in the gastroenterology department alleged that beds were available in the gynecology ward, but the woman was not provided a bed.
The hospital administration, however, said the woman had initially been brought to the gynecology ward and was later shifted to the gastroenterology ward after she complained of a gastrointestinal condition.
JPMC Executive Director Dr Salman said an inquiry committee had been constituted to investigate the incident and determine the facts surrounding the deaths.
The committee will examine the circumstances leading to the alleged denial of a bed and the subsequent deaths of the woman and her newborn.
