Alleged Abduction of Advocate Shahryar Achakzai Raises Serious Questions About Rule of Law: Senator Kamran Murtaza

Quetta: Central President of Jamiat Lawyers Forum Pakistan, Senator Kamran Murtaza Advocate, has strongly condemned the alleged abduction of Quetta Bar Association lawyer Advocate Shahryar Achakzai, describing the incident as deeply concerning and a serious challenge to the rule of law.

Senator Kamran Murtaza said Advocate Shahryar Achakzai had gone to the airport earlier in the morning to pick up a friend. However, reports emerged that he was allegedly abducted by unidentified individuals while returning from the airport.

He expressed serious concern that several hours had passed without any information about the whereabouts of the missing lawyer, saying that verbal assurances without practical progress were unacceptable.

Senator Murtaza demanded that police and law enforcement agencies immediately use all available resources to ensure the safe recovery of Advocate Shahryar Achakzai.

He also called for a transparent and effective investigation into the incident and demanded that those responsible be arrested without delay and brought to justice.

He said ensuring the safety and security of lawyers was a fundamental responsibility of the state and law enforcement agencies.

“The abduction of a lawyer is not merely a crime against an individual; it is a warning sign for the rule of law, the judiciary and the entire legal system,” he said.

Senator Kamran Murtaza also expressed support for the Quetta Bar Association’s announcement of a complete judicial strike on August 18, urging the government to take immediate and effective measures so that lawyers were not forced to adopt a tougher course of protest.

He prayed for the safe and immediate recovery of Advocate Shahryar Achakzai and said the lawyers’ community stood firmly with his family during this difficult time.
