Trump Says US May Declare Strait of Hormuz American Territory
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said he will soon announce that the Strait of Hormuz will be declared US territory.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said the United States was preparing to intensify economic pressure on Iran in an effort to force Tehran to end the war.
He said an important announcement regarding the Strait of Hormuz would be made soon. The strategic waterway carries a significant share of global oil supplies, raising concerns that Trump’s remarks could further escalate tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would impose unprecedented sanctions and other measures against Iran at the beginning of next week.
Bessent said the upcoming actions would represent some of the toughest economic measures ever taken against Tehran.
