Independence Day Flag-Hoisting Ceremony Held at Balochistan High Court

QUETTA: A dignified flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Balochistan High Court on Friday to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.

Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail hoisted the national flag at the court’s premises. Judges of the High Court, officers and staff, lawyers and other relevant officials attended the ceremony.

Congratulating the nation on Independence Day, Chief Justice Malakhail said August 14 was not merely a historical occasion but a day to renew the nation’s commitment to its ideology, pledges and responsibilities.

He said Pakistan had emerged as a result of the sacrifices, unwavering faith, struggle and determination of its founders and elders. Therefore, he added, contributing to the country’s security, development and stability was a national responsibility shared by everyone.

Justice Malakhail said the real strength of a nation lay in unity, mutual trust, national solidarity and the pursuit of common objectives. He stressed the need to promote mutual respect and a sense of collective responsibility while giving priority to merit, integrity, the rule of law and national interests instead of nepotism, selfishness and personal interests.

The Chief Justice said that parliamentary supremacy, constitutional adherence and the rule of law were fundamental responsibilities of state institutions. Constitutional supremacy, the rule of law and the provision of justice, he added, were the foundations of a strong Pakistan.

He reaffirmed that the judiciary would continue to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities by providing justice to citizens without discrimination. He said judicial institutions must play an effective role in ensuring equal justice in accordance with the Constitution and law, while removing obstacles within the judicial system was essential to strengthening public confidence in the judiciary.

Justice Malakhail said the district judiciary, as the frontline of the justice system, carried a significant responsibility for providing justice and must perform its duties with impartiality, integrity and without fear or favour.

He noted that people approaching courts came with the hope of obtaining justice and redress for their grievances, making it a fundamental responsibility of the judiciary to ensure their grievances were addressed.

The Chief Justice also emphasized that lawyers, judges and all stakeholders associated with the justice system should perform their responsibilities impartially, honestly and in accordance with the law.

He said the fundamental objective of the rule of law and an independent judiciary was to protect people from oppression, injustice and exploitation and ensure timely justice.

Justice Malakhail further observed that justice was not merely about issuing judgments but also about ensuring the fair protection of the rights of all segments of society. He said injustice could only be eliminated when every individual performed their duties honestly and refrained from violating the rights of others.

He reiterated the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law, providing equal justice and protecting the fundamental rights of citizens.

The ceremony concluded with a special prayer for Pakistan’s security, development, prosperity, stability and national unity.
