Government Announces Changes in Petroleum Product Prices
ISLAMABAD: The government has announced changes in the prices of petroleum products, with petrol becoming cheaper by 94 paisas per litre while the price of diesel has increased by 54 paisas per litre.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been fixed at Rs324.98 per litre, while diesel will now be available at Rs382.79 per litre.
The new prices have been set for one day and will come into effect from midnight tonight.
Meanwhile, a separate report said residents in the US state of Ohio had strongly reacted after petrol prices at some filling stations reportedly jumped from $3.65 to $4.49 per gallon within an hour of flash flooding.
Residents alleged that fuel prices were sharply increased shortly after the state declared an emergency. They urged the governor, a senator, members of Congress and state legislators to take action against oil companies over what they described as inhumane treatment of people in disaster-hit areas.
The residents said many people were being forced to run generators or stay in their vehicles during the emergency, making a sudden increase in fuel prices particularly difficult for affected communities.
Speaking to local broadcaster WAVE, some residents said they supported the Republican Party and had voted for President Donald Trump three times. They also expressed disappointment with Vice President JD Vance, saying that despite representing Ohio politically, he had not taken sufficient action for the state during the emergency.
The residents described increasing fuel prices immediately after the declaration of an emergency as a serious matter and called for appropriate action against companies allegedly involved in the price hikes.
