Amendment to Article 243 Aims to Secure Field Marshal’s Role in Decision-Making, Claims Journalist Mohsin Baig

Islamabad:Senior journalist **Mohsin Baig** has claimed that the proposed **amendment to Article 243 of the Constitution** is aimed at **providing constitutional protection to the position of Field Marshal** and **enhancing their role in national decision-making**.

In a post on social media platform **X (formerly Twitter)**, Baig stated that **“homework on the 27th Constitutional Amendment is progressing rapidly”**, and the **government plans to get it passed by both Houses of Parliament on November 14 or 15**. He added that the amendment bill could be tabled for debate very soon.

Baig further claimed that the **Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)** is **bargaining over the NFC Award and provincial autonomy**, but will ultimately **support the amendment**. According to him, under the expected agreement, **education and health ministries will be handed back to the provinces**, and the **executive magistracy system** will also be **restored**.

“The purpose of amending Article 243 is to protect the post of Field Marshal and expand their role in policymaking and decision-making,” Baig reiterated.

He also suggested that the **PPP’s demand to maintain the existing provincial share in the NFC Award** may be accepted as part of the broader political understanding. Following the amendment’s approval, Baig claimed, the **PPP is expected to form a government in Azad Kashmir**, as **key decision-makers have already given the green signal**.
