Quetta Plunged into Darkness as Street Lights Remain Out of Order, Citizens Demand Immediate Repairs

QUETTA: The shutdown and malfunctioning of streetlights across the provincial capital have plunged large parts of Quetta into darkness, raising concerns over increasing traffic accidents, theft, street robbery and other crimes.

Citizens said major roads, markets, streets and residential areas remain poorly lit at night, creating serious difficulties for motorists and pedestrians. They added that incidents of theft and other crimes have also reportedly increased in areas where streetlights are not functioning.

Streetlights in several central and suburban areas of Quetta are either completely out of service or in poor condition. Residents said they had lodged complaints with the relevant authorities several times, but no effective action had been taken so far.

A citizen said navigating roads at night had become difficult, particularly for women and elderly people. He added that several accidents had reportedly occurred due to poor visibility, especially in areas where roads are already damaged.

Citizens have demanded the immediate repair and restoration of faulty streetlights across the city. They also called for increased nighttime security patrols to prevent crime and urged the authorities to install modern, automated streetlight systems to ensure reliable illumination.

Residents warned that continued negligence could further endanger public safety and called on the concerned authorities to take urgent measures to restore street lighting throughout Quetta.
