US Remains Unresponsive to Pakistan’s Request for $10 Billion Support
ISLAMABAD: The United States has so far shown no positive response to Pakistan’s request for $10 billion from the US Exchange Stabilization Fund to help strengthen the country’s foreign exchange reserves, although economic and financial discussions between the two countries are continuing.
According to sources cited by Daily Jang, Pakistan had expressed its desire to secure $10 billion in support from the United States to stabilize its foreign exchange reserves. However, no significant progress has been reported from the US side regarding the request.
Despite the lack of progress on the $10 billion proposal, Pakistan and the United States continue to engage on other areas of financial and economic cooperation, including investment and financing opportunities for commercially viable projects in Pakistan.
Sources said Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker at the Ministry of Finance on Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral financial cooperation, investment and opportunities to expand financing for commercially viable projects in Pakistan.
The meeting also focused on strengthening economic ties between the two countries and identifying projects where greater private-sector participation could create new investment and financing opportunities.
Pakistan has recently been seeking financial support from various international sources to strengthen its foreign exchange reserves, meet external financing requirements and encourage investment in the economy.
The request for $10 billion from the United States is being viewed in this broader context. However, despite the lack of a positive response from Washington on the specific request, economic dialogue and engagement between Pakistan and the United States remain ongoing.
