Rana Sanaullah Has No Standing to Speak About Meeting with Imran Khan: Junaid Akbar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar has said Federal Adviser Rana Sanaullah has no authority to speak about meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Junaid Akbar said Rana Sanaullah had no influence even in comparison with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Senator Faisal Vawda, questioning his ability to decide whether PTI leaders or family members would be allowed to meet Imran Khan.

He said this was one of the reasons PTI leaders were not willing to sit with Rana Sanaullah.

Junaid Akbar said that if Imran Khan’s sisters were not allowed to meet him on Tuesday, the party already had a September 27 protest call, after which the leadership would decide its future course of action. He added that no assurance had been given regarding a meeting with Imran Khan.

The PTI leader said the party was a political organization and would use every available constitutional and political forum to pursue its position.

He claimed that the system had become ineffective and that state institutions were being held hostage. He said it was also necessary to remind the Chief Justice that the dignity of the judiciary was being undermined.

Junaid Akbar said PTI would raise the matter before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and seek measures to prevent what he described as the undermining of the judiciary and to restore the process of meetings with Imran Khan.

Asked about his differences with PTI leader Salman Akram Raja, Junaid Akbar said Raja was like a brother and differences could occur within a political party.

He, however, said statements that could further deepen differences should be avoided. Regarding whether any action should be taken against anyone, he said the decision would rest with the senior party leadership.

Junaid Akbar reiterated that PTI would use every available political, constitutional and legal forum to advance its political position and would continue raising the issue of meetings with Imran Khan before relevant forums.
