‘Shehbaz Sharif Is Prime Minister Because of Form 47,’ Says Analyst Javed Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Renowned political analyst Javed Chaudhry has commented on Pakistan’s political situation, claiming that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif holds office because of Form 47, alleging that this is a reality acknowledged not only by his opponents but also by some members of his own party.

Speaking about electoral victories, Chaudhry said that Shehbaz Sharif is prime minister because of Form 47 and claimed that members of his party also recognize this situation.

He said that if members of the National or Provincial Assembly were asked whether they had genuinely won their elections, they would allegedly hesitate before attributing their victories to “Allah’s grace.”

The analyst further cited an alleged incident in Rawalpindi involving a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) provincial assembly member and former federal minister Rana Sanaullah.

According to Chaudhry, the MPA complained to Rana Sanaullah that a deputy commissioner was not following his instructions. Rana Sanaullah allegedly responded that if the MPA had genuinely won the election, the deputy commissioner should have followed his directives, but claimed that the official also knew the MPA had not actually won.

Chaudhry presented the anecdote as an example of the political uncertainty surrounding the legitimacy of some electoral victories.
