Balochistan Lawmakers Blame Federal and Provincial Governments for Rising Terrorism and Lawlessness
Quetta: Members of the Balochistan Assembly have expressed serious concern over rising terrorism, lawlessness, and the repeated closure of national highways, blaming the current federal and provincial governments for the worsening security situation in the province.
They warned that the deteriorating law-and-order situation had made life increasingly difficult for residents and posed serious risks to the public. They said the Quetta-Karachi highway had effectively remained hostage for the past two months, discouraging people from traveling and causing significant difficulties for citizens, traders, patients, and commuters.
The remarks were made separately by Balochistan Assembly opposition leader Mir Younis Aziz Zehri, MPA Nawab Aslam Raisani, MPA Mir Zabid Ali Reki, and Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran.
The lawmakers said the security situation in several parts of the province was continuously deteriorating, while the repeated closure of major national highways was disrupting daily life and economic activity. They warned that prolonged road blockages were also increasing public frustration.
They criticized the practice of placing containers on major roads in Quetta at night in the name of security, saying the measure causes serious inconvenience to residents. They said patients, women, elderly people, and emergency services face particular difficulties because of such road closures.
The lawmakers urged the government to take effective and practical measures to improve law and order, ensure the safety and continued operation of national highways, and prevent unnecessary hardships for citizens.
They emphasized that protecting the lives and property of citizens was the state’s primary responsibility and demanded immediate action to address the deteriorating security situation.
The lawmakers further said that if the federal and provincial governments were unable to control the situation in Balochistan, they should resign and go home.
