Death Toll in Quetta Coal Mine Blast Rises to 34 as Rescue Operation Continues

QUETTA: The death toll from a methane gas explosion at a coal mine in the Sorange area near Quetta has risen to 34, after rescue teams recovered eight more bodies from inside the mine. Search and rescue operations remain underway for the remaining miners.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a total of 42 miners were working inside the mine when the methane gas explosion occurred, trapping them underground. Rescue personnel have been carrying out continuous operations to locate and recover the remaining workers.

The owner of the mine stated that the explosion was caused by an accumulation of methane gas inside the shaft. He confirmed that 42 laborers were present in the mine at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, Mir Sarfraz Bugti has taken notice of the tragic accident and sought an immediate report from the relevant authorities.

The chief minister directed officials to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and warned that strict legal action would be taken if any negligence or misconduct is found to have contributed to the tragedy.

Authorities have pledged to continue rescue efforts and ensure accountability while extending support to the affected families.
