Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Says Pakistan Facing Worst Inflation and Economic Crisis, Calls for Political Dialogue

Quetta: The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has claimed that Pakistan is facing the worst inflation and economic crisis in its history and alleged that terrorism is being spread through proxy groups, calling for political dialogue to address the country’s challenges.

In a statement issued by the party’s central secretariat, PkMAP said large protest rallies and public gatherings were held across Quetta, Pishin, Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Sherani, Musa Khel, Loralai, Sanjavi, Ziarat, Sibi, and Harnai following a call by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, head of the Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Ayeen Pakistan, chairman of PkMAP, and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.

According to the statement, protesters demanded the restoration of the Constitution, democracy, judicial independence, media freedom, and civilian authority. They also called for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Ali Wazir, Mahrang Baloch, and other political detainees.

The party said Pakistan is currently facing multiple crises, with the economic situation being the most serious. It also criticized the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, alleging that they have undermined the independence of the judiciary and the media while weakening the role of Parliament.

PkMAP further claimed that soaring inflation, unemployment, and restrictions on trade have severely affected livelihoods, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and alleged that economic policies are disproportionately harming the Pashtun population.

The statement also alleged that terrorism is being promoted through proxy groups under a planned strategy and stressed the need to restore peace and security.

The party announced that it will organize peace jirgas in Quetta and Peshawar, with a three-day jirga scheduled to be held in Quetta from August 30 to September 1, while the date for the Peshawar jirga will be announced later.

PkMAP leaders said the large turnout at the protests reflected public dissatisfaction with the current government and reiterated that political dialogue is essential for resolving the country’s ongoing crises.
