Mohsin Naqvi Says Government Will Complete Full Five-Year Term, Shehbaz Sharif to Remain Prime Minister

Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that the current government will complete its constitutional five-year term and that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will remain in office throughout that period.

In an interview with Geo News, Naqvi said he would advise the prime minister to have the performance of all federal ministries independently evaluated by a third party, with the findings made public.

“The performance of every ministry should be assessed by an independent third party so the public can see which ministries are delivering results,” he said.

Responding to criticism of his own performance, Naqvi said his attendance at federal cabinet meetings was around 70 percent. Referring to remarks that he had achieved “30 years’ worth of progress in three years,” he thanked those who had made the comments.

The interior minister reiterated his view that Pakistan’s governance system has long faced structural problems, clarifying that his earlier remarks were aimed at the country’s longstanding administrative system rather than the current government.

“I never intended to issue a charge sheet against the government because I am myself a member of it,” he said.

Naqvi dismissed speculation about differences between himself and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying some people wished to see tensions between them but such claims were unfounded.

He maintained that the coalition government would complete its constitutional tenure, adding that “the current system is not going anywhere” and that Shehbaz Sharif would remain prime minister for the full five-year term.

Praising the prime minister’s leadership, Naqvi said Shehbaz Sharif works between 14 and 16 hours a day. He also highlighted what he described as improvements in tax revenue, success in national security matters, and diplomatic achievements, adding that stronger institutional systems would enable even greater progress.
