Balochistan Assembly Voices Security Concerns, Approves Safe Cities Authority Bill 2026

Quetta: Members of the Balochistan Assembly voiced serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the province during a session on Wednesday, warning that terrorism continues to threaten public safety.

Speaking in the Assembly, MPA Zamrak Khan Achakzai said Balochistan is in the grip of terrorism and warned that the security situation could worsen in the coming days. He also claimed that vehicles are being set on fire on national highways, highlighting growing security challenges across the province.

During the debate, MPA Mir Zabad Ali Reki referred to the Asma Jatak case, stating that she was allegedly abducted in 2024. He said her fiancé was killed following the incident, while her father was also recently killed, and urged the provincial government to take immediate notice of the case and ensure justice.

On the legislative front, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove presented a constitutional resolution to reject the Balochistan Safe Cities Authority Ordinance 2026 under Article 128(2)(a) of the Constitution. The resolution was unanimously approved by the Assembly.

The Home Minister subsequently introduced the Balochistan Safe Cities Authority Bill 2026, which was also passed unanimously, replacing the previously rejected ordinance. The legislation is aimed at establishing a legal framework for the Safe Cities Authority in the province.
