Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party Raises Concern Over Alleged Harassment of Pashtuns, Demands Immediate Action
Quetta: The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkMAP) has expressed serious concern over the alleged arbitrary arrests, harassment, unlawful detention, and ethnic profiling of Pashtuns in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, urging the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the matter.
In a statement issued by the party’s central secretariat, PkMAP claimed that Pashtun youths, laborers, traders, students, drivers, and workers in Karachi and other parts of Sindh were allegedly being detained despite possessing valid identification documents. The party said such incidents have raised concerns regarding civil liberties and fundamental human rights.
The statement also highlighted the reported detention of two young men, Ali Muhammad and Niaz Muhammad, from Karachi’s Landhi area by the Sindh Rangers. The party maintained that if the individuals face any legal charges, they should be produced before a court in accordance with the law. If they are not accused of any wrongdoing, they should be released immediately.
PkMAP stated that the Pashtun community has made significant contributions to Pakistan’s economy, trade, industry, construction, transport, and national stability, but is allegedly facing ethnic profiling and discriminatory treatment, which it described as inconsistent with constitutional principles and equal citizenship rights.
The party called on the federal government, the Sindh government, the Ministry of Interior, Sindh Rangers, Sindh Police, and other relevant institutions to investigate the alleged incidents of unlawful arrests, detention, and harassment, ensure the release of innocent individuals, and take legal action against those found responsible.
The statement added that PkMAP remains committed to protecting the constitutional, democratic, and human rights of all citizens and warned that if such incidents continue, the party will raise the issue on all constitutional, democratic, and parliamentary forums.
