Balochistan Cabinet Approves Key Reforms to Boost Development, Security, and Public Welfare

QUETTA:In a significant move towards improving governance and public welfare, the Balochistan Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sardarfaraz Bugti, convened on Tuesday at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The meeting saw the approval of various decisions aimed at the province’s overall development, effective governance, public wellbeing, and security.
**Key Decisions:**
1. **Health Sector Overhaul:** The Cabinet decided to activate inactive hospitals in several regions of the province with the assistance of the Pakistan Army, ensuring basic medical services reach citizens at their doorstep.
2. **Agricultural Subsidy:** To boost the agricultural sector, a major decision was made to provide farmers with 50% subsidized agricultural tractors. Additionally, in line with a Supreme Court ruling, the promotion of trained crop reporters in the Agriculture Department from Grade 6 to Grade 11 was approved.
3. **Energy Sector Improvements:** The Cabinet formed a high-level committee comprising the Secretary of Finance and the Secretary of Energy to conduct a technical and financial review of 150-kilowatt solar projects in Lasbela and Hub.
4. **Security Measures:** In a bid to enhance security, the Cabinet approved the establishment of two new police stations in Kohlu, additional security for Mangi Dam, the creation of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) posts in Rakni and Barkhan, and boundary revisions for CTD in Loralai and Sibi.
5. **Women’s Rights & Welfare:** The Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women’s Chairperson, Kiran Baloch, was appointed. Moreover, the adjustment of trainee teachers in Makran and Kech districts was also approved, marking a significant step for education in the province.
6. **Pension Reforms:** The Cabinet approved the Balochistan Contribution Pension Scheme Rules 2025, ensuring a sustainable pension system for government employees and controlling the rising non-development budget.
7. **Job Creation:** The Cabinet gave approval for recruitment in all departments, including the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, to create more job opportunities for the youth.
8. **Other Key Decisions:** Amendments to arms license rules were passed, including the elimination of exemptions. Furthermore, in response to a federal government request, 20 acres of land leased to a private medical institute was retrieved.

Government Spokesperson Shahid Rand informed the media during a press conference that these decisions reflect Chief Minister Mir Sardarfaraz Bugti’s vision of creating a prosperous, secure, and public-friendly Balochistan. He emphasized that the provincial government is committed to transparency, merit, and public service, and the benefits of these decisions will soon be felt by the people.
