Trump Announces Key U.S.-Iran Talks as Diplomatic Efforts Continue
Washington:U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that important negotiations between the United States and Iran will begin today, but declined to set a final deadline for reaching a possible agreement.
Speaking to reporters while returning to Washington from New Jersey, Trump said the talks would begin on Monday afternoon. However, he did not disclose the location of the negotiations or identify the participants.
Earlier, Trump claimed on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar had urged the United States to delay military action to allow for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and to facilitate an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
When asked whether Iran had been given a final deadline, Trump avoided a direct answer, saying he preferred to reach an agreement rather than resort to war.
> “I would rather make a deal. I don’t want to kill people because many lives are lost in war,” Trump said.
According to a foreign news agency, Trump has maintained a hardline stance toward Iran in recent months and has repeatedly threatened military action. However, military operations have reportedly been postponed on several occasions to allow diplomatic negotiations to continue.
Meanwhile, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran has placed significant pressure on global energy markets. Nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments pass through the strategic waterway, and its closure has fueled concerns over rising oil prices and increased global inflation.
Trump reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a top U.S. priority. However, growing energy costs and economic pressure have also increased political calls for a diplomatic solution rather than military confrontation.
