Karachi Civil Hospital Launches Advanced 4K Laparoscopic Facility for Children’s Surgeries

Karachi: Dr. Ruth K.M. Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi has inaugurated a state-of-the-art 4K Pediatric Laparoscopic Tower, marking a significant advancement in pediatric healthcare and minimally invasive surgery.

The newly installed system in the hospital’s Department of Pediatrics will enable doctors to perform modern, minimally invasive surgeries on children with greater precision, safety, and efficiency.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, medical experts said the advanced laparoscopic technology will allow surgeons to perform complex abdominal and thoracic procedures on children more safely than before.

The new system offers several benefits, including smaller incisions, reduced pain, minimal blood loss, lower risk of infection, and faster recovery times for young patients.

Head of the Pediatrics Department, Dr. Arif Mateen, said the hospital will be able to perform approximately 15 to 20 pediatric surgeries each week using the new equipment. He added that the 4K imaging technology provides surgeons with exceptionally clear visuals, helping improve surgical precision and patient outcomes.

Addressing the ceremony, Senator Waqar Mehdi said that laparoscopic surgeries for children often cost hundreds of thousands of rupees at private hospitals. He emphasized that the Sindh government is continuing to invest in the healthcare sector to provide modern and free medical facilities at public hospitals.

He said the government’s goal is to ensure that advanced healthcare services are accessible to every citizen without discrimination.

Meanwhile, Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Khalid Bukhari noted that the facility should have become operational earlier, but the project was delayed due to the late release of budgetary funds.

Hospital officials said the addition of the 4K Pediatric Laparoscopic Tower will not only benefit children from Sindh but also patients from across Pakistan by providing access to world-class pediatric surgical care in the public healthcare system. The facility is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to perform complex pediatric surgeries while improving the overall standard of treatment.
