Security Check Posts Attacked in Nushki, Vehicles Set Ablaze in Chagai Amid Rising Unrest
QUETTA: Reports of unrest emerged from Balochistan’s Nushki and Chagai districts on Tuesday after alleged attacks on security check posts and incidents of arson targeting commercial vehicles, prompting heightened security measures in the affected areas.
According to sources, an attack on a security forces’ check post in Nushki’s Ghareebabad area triggered an exchange of gunfire. Intermittent firing was also reported from Badal Karez, Killi Faqiran, and surrounding localities.
The tense situation has reportedly led to the closure of Nushki city’s main market, while residents have expressed concerns over security conditions. Authorities have yet to officially confirm details regarding the attack or any possible casualties.
In a separate incident in the Padag area of Chagai district, unidentified armed men allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on trailers and bowser vehicles parked outside a hotel before setting five trailers and two bowser trucks ablaze.
Police sources said that one driver sustained injuries during the attack and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The assailants reportedly fled the scene before law enforcement personnel arrived. Police and other security agencies subsequently cordoned off the area, collected evidence, and launched an investigation into the incident.
Authorities stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible and to determine the motives behind the attacks. An assessment of the financial losses caused by the destruction of the vehicles is also being carried out.
