Mahmood Khan Achakzai Demands FIR Over Ziarat Incident, Calls for Balochistan Government’s Resignation

Quetta: Opposition Leader and Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has called for the registration of a criminal case against officials he alleges were responsible for sending police personnel without weapons to Mangi in Ziarat district, and demanded the immediate resignation of the Balochistan government.
Addressing a sit-in protest over the Ziarat incident, Achakzai alleged that officials ranging from the deputy commissioner to the chief secretary should be investigated and held accountable. He said opposition parties had jointly decided to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s government.
Achakzai criticized both the provincial and federal governments, claiming they lacked the authority to hold meaningful negotiations. He also expressed anger over the handling of the victims’ bodies and called for accountability for those responsible.
Speaking on broader political issues, Achakzai said state institutions should operate within their constitutional limits and argued that elected representatives should be allowed to govern without interference. He also called for greater respect for the rights and resources of Pakistan’s provinces and local communities.
The opposition leader announced that opposition parties stand in support of the protesters and said demonstrations could be expanded across the country if the protest organizers decide to do so. He suggested holding similar sit-ins outside deputy commissioners’ offices in different districts and said further consultations would be held regarding future protests.
Commenting on foreign policy, Achakzai proposed that Pakistan convene a meeting of neighboring countries under the auspices of the United Nations. He said that if evidence of cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan were established, political parties would support the state’s response, while also emphasizing the importance of respecting neighboring countries’ sovereignty.
The remarks represent Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s political views and allegations made during the protest. The government officials and institutions mentioned have not responded to these statements in the material provided.
