UET Expels, Suspends Students After Protest Over Classmate’s Death

Lahore: Students who took part in protests following the death of a student at the
University of Engineering and Technology Lahore
have been subjected to strict disciplinary action by the university administration.

According to media reports, action has been taken against 25 students allegedly involved in the protest activities. Under the university’s disciplinary committee recommendations, six students have been expelled from th

e university, while 13 students have been removed from the current semester. In addition, six students have been fined between Rs5,000 and Rs15,000.

The protest was held a few days after the death of a UET student. Demonstrating students demanded a transparent investigation into the incident, identification of those responsible, and improved facilities for students. Tension was also reported on the university campus during the protest.

A UET spokesperson said the disciplinary measures were taken in light of the recommendations of the disciplinary committee. The spokesperson added that all affected students have the right to appeal the decision under university rules and regulations, and any appeal submitted will be decided according to the applicable laws and procedures.
