Aamir Khan Reveals He Used to Cry After Work During Early Struggles in Bollywood

LONDON:** Bollywood superstar **Aamir Khan** has opened up about the challenges he faced in the early days of his acting career, revealing that he often returned home in tears despite achieving overnight fame.

Speaking at the **BFI London Film Festival**, Aamir reflected on his journey after making his debut in the 1988 blockbuster **Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak**, which catapulted him to stardom.

Despite the film’s massive success, Aamir said he was not taken seriously by leading filmmakers.

“Having a blockbuster like *Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak* was not enough. Although I had a major hit to my name, none of the directors I wanted to work with approached me,” he said.

The actor explained that while he had become successful, he was not getting the kind of work he aspired to do. At the time, Bollywood actors often signed dozens of films simultaneously. He noted that Anil Kapoor had around 33 films in hand, while Govinda was working on more than 70 projects.

Believing he should keep up with the industry trend, Aamir signed around eight to ten films based on their scripts, most of them with first-time directors.

“I had no idea what I was getting into. Looking at my personality, even 10 films were too many. Within a few months, I realized I had made the wrong decision, but I honored all my commitments,” he said.

Aamir recalled that the films were released one after another and most of them failed at the box office, earning him the reputation of being a “one-film wonder.”

“It felt like I was trapped in quicksand. With every new film, I was sinking deeper,” he said.

The actor added that the experience took a heavy emotional toll.

“I used to come home from work and cry because I was completely unhappy with the work I was doing. This was never the reason I had entered the film industry,” Aamir said.
