Lahore Resident Drowns While Draining Rainwater from Home Basement Amid Urban Flooding

Lahore: A resident of Lahore lost his life after drowning while attempting to drain rainwater from the basement of his house following heavy monsoon rains that triggered urban flooding across several parts of the city.

According to rescue officials, the tragic incident occurred in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase V, where the man was trying to remove accumulated rainwater from his home’s basement. Authorities said nearly 10 feet of water had collected in the basement, causing the resident to drown during the effort.

The incident comes in the wake of torrential rainfall that inundated numerous residential areas and major roads in Lahore, leading to widespread urban flooding. Several localities reported water entering homes, disrupting daily life and causing significant inconvenience to residents.

Heavy rainfall overwhelmed the drainage system in Lahore Cantonment, resulting in several feet of standing water in areas including Ali View Gardens, Ali Park, Nadra Abad, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Residents reported that many affected areas resembled streams and waterways due to the accumulation of rainwater. In DHA Phase III, rainwater entered homes in Blocks A, B, and C, while Walton Road and Cavalry Ground remained completely submerged, severely disrupting traffic flow.

The main boulevard of Cavalry Ground was also inundated, causing major difficulties for commuters. Similarly, significant water accumulation on Main Defence Road left sections of the roadway resembling a river.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as monsoon rains persist, while citizens have been advised to exercise caution and avoid entering waterlogged areas, particularly enclosed spaces such as basements where deep water may pose serious risks.
