Punjab Bans Spy Devices Used for Secret Audio and Video Recording

LAHORE:The Punjab government has imposed a ban on devices used for spying and covert recording, issuing a formal notification outlining the restrictions.

According to the notification, the ban will remain in effect for 30 days and applies to devices capable of secretly recording photographs, videos and audio.

The restrictions cover spy gadgets disguised as everyday items, including glasses fitted with hidden cameras, pens and keychains. The sale and purchase of such devices through shops and online platforms have also been prohibited.

The notification states that covert recording devices pose threats to citizens’ privacy, sensitive information and the security of important installations.

The government said the measure aims to protect the dignity and privacy of women and children and prevent the misuse of hidden recording equipment.

However, laptops, tablets, mobile phones and terminal devices approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have been exempted from the ban.
