According to a NADRA spokesperson, the action is being taken on the authority’s recommendation, with the Ministry of Interior instructing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to enforce the process.
The blocking will be carried out in phases. SIMs registered on CNICs that expired in 2017 will be blocked by June 30, 2025. SIMs linked to CNICs expired in 2018, 2019, and 2020 will be blocked on July 31, August 31, and September 30 respectively.
Similarly, SIMs on CNICs expired in 2021 and 2022 will be blocked on October 31 and November 30, while those on CNICs expired during 2023, 2024, and 2025 will be blocked by December 31.
The total number of such SIMs is 4,906,611, all registered against CNICs that have either not been renewed or belong to deceased individuals.
The spokesperson stated that the primary aim of this campaign is to prevent misuse of mobile networks through fake or inactive identities, enhancing national security and ensuring a safer, more reliable digital ecosystem.
Citizens are advised to renew their CNICs promptly to avoid disruption of mobile services.
