Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Agree to Continue Diplomatic Engagement for Regional Peace

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, where the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation in detail.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran and exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Ishaq Dar expressed deep concern over recent regional tensions and stressed that all parties must promote dialogue, restraint, de-escalation, and sustained diplomatic engagement to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.

He also emphasized the need to advance the progress made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) agreed upon in June 2026, aimed at contributing to durable regional peace and stability.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic support and constructive role in promoting peace and security in the region.

He also thanked Pakistan for its cooperation in facilitating the safe repatriation of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including individuals who had been detained by U.S. authorities during separate operations. Araghchi noted that Pakistan played an important role in ensuring their safe return through effective coordination with Iranian, American, and other relevant authorities.

The two foreign ministers agreed to maintain close contact and regular consultations on matters of mutual interest. They also reaffirmed their shared commitment to working together for regional peace, stability, and common prosperity.
