Death Toll Rises to Six as Heavy Rains and Flash Floods Batter Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR:** The death toll from torrential rains and flash floods in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has risen to six, rescue officials said.

According to Rescue 1122, four people were swept away and killed in **Landi Kotal**, while two others lost their lives in **Jamrud** in Khyber district.

A vehicle carrying an Afghan family to the **Torkham border crossing** was swept away by floodwaters. The vehicle was carrying 16 passengers, including women and children. Rescue teams successfully saved 13 people, while the bodies of three victims were recovered.

Rescue officials said that more than 100 stranded vehicles on the **Pakistan-Afghanistan Highway** were moved to safer locations, and relief and rescue operations are continuing in the flood-affected areas.

In **Upper Dir**, heavy rainfall triggered flooding in streams and waterways, while the water level in the **Panjkora River** rose significantly.

In **Kaghan Valley**, intense rainfall caused mudslides, disrupting traffic on the **Kaghan Highway**. Traffic on the road leading to **Lake Saif-ul-Malook** was also affected due to erosion caused by floodwaters.

Meanwhile, **Astore district** in Gilgit-Baltistan also experienced flash flooding following heavy rains, damaging homes, crops, and connecting roads in several villages.

In **Lahore**, intermittent light and heavy rainfall brought relief from the heat and humidity. However, water accumulated on roads and in low-lying areas, disrupting traffic across parts of the city.
