Commercial Vessel Damaged in Suspected Attack Near UAE’s Fujairah Port

ISLAMABAD:A commercial vessel was damaged in a suspected attack near the UAE’s strategic port of **Fujairah**, after an unidentified projectile reportedly struck the ship, damaging its steering system.

According to the **UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO)**, the incident occurred about **17 nautical miles east of Dibba**, in waters near Fujairah Port.

The vessel’s crew reported that an object, believed to be a **projectile or missile**, hit the ship from an unknown direction. While the impact damaged the vessel’s steering system, **no casualties were reported**.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Commercial vessels transiting the **Gulf of Oman** and the **Strait of Hormuz** have been advised to exercise extreme caution and immediately report any suspicious activity.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between **Iran and the United States**, with several attacks on commercial ships and oil tankers having been reported in recent weeks in the Gulf of Oman, the Strait of Hormuz, and waters near the United Arab Emirates.

Recent incidents have involved unidentified projectiles, drones, or missile strikes targeting commercial vessels, raising concerns over the security of global maritime trade and energy shipments.

**No group or country has claimed responsibility** for the latest attack. Authorities said it would be premature to determine the nature of the incident or identify those responsible until the investigation is completed.
