Punjab Introduces New Vehicle Registration Policy, Mandates Registration Before Delivery

Islamabad: The Punjab government has introduced a new policy aimed at making the purchase and registration of new vehicles more convenient and transparent. Under the new rules, no new vehicle can be delivered to a buyer without official registration and a government-issued number plate.

According to the policy, the registration process will now be completed before the vehicle is handed over, eliminating the need for buyers to visit excise offices after purchase. The government said the initiative is intended to simplify the registration process while improving efficiency and public service.

To implement the policy, automobile manufacturers and authorized dealerships are being licensed under the Dealer Vehicle Registration System, allowing them to process vehicle registrations directly. This enables customers to complete both the purchase and registration of their vehicles at the dealership.

Officials said that 102 dealerships across Punjab are currently offering the service and are authorized to complete vehicle registrations for a service fee of Rs2,000. The government plans to expand the network by bringing more authorized dealers into the system.

Authorities said the policy is expected to ensure timely tax collection, increase transparency in vehicle registration, and reduce unnecessary delays. They also warned that strict monitoring will be carried out, and dealerships found violating the policy will face legal action in accordance with the law.
