All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee Announces Nationwide Protest Movement, Ali Ahmad Kurd to Lead Campaign

Islamabad: Pakistan’s legal fraternity has formally announced the launch of a new nationwide protest movement following the conclusion of judicial vacations, appointing senior lawyer and former Supreme Court Bar Association president Ali Ahmad Kurd to lead the campaign.

The decision was made during an important meeting of the All Pakistan Lawyers National Action Committee held at the Supreme Court Bar Association premises in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday, July 18, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Ali Ahmad Kurd and attended by prominent lawyers and representatives of bar associations from across the country.

After deliberations on the prevailing constitutional and legal situation in the country, members of the committee unanimously selected Ali Ahmad Kurd as the leader of the upcoming movement.

Lawyers participating in the meeting expressed confidence that the campaign, under Kurd’s leadership, would serve as a significant step toward upholding the rule of law and constitutional principles in Pakistan.

Ali Ahmad Kurd is widely known for leading the historic lawyers’ movement during the tenure of former President General Pervez Musharraf, which played a pivotal role in the restoration of the judiciary and the broader struggle for judicial independence.

According to the committee, preparations are underway to formally launch the nationwide movement immediately after the judicial holidays. The campaign is expected to mobilize bar associations throughout the country and may include protest demonstrations, advocacy efforts, and sit-ins aimed at safeguarding constitutional and legal norms.

The legal community has reiterated its commitment to resisting any actions it considers unconstitutional and has vowed to continue its longstanding role in defending the rule of law and democratic institutions in Pakistan.
