Balochistan Should Be a Land of Peace, Not Militarization, Says Jamaat-e-Islami Leader Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch

QUETTA: Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan chief and Member of the Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch has called for lasting peace, justice, and the protection of constitutional rights in Balochistan, saying the province should become “a land of peace, not militarization.”

Speaking during meetings with various delegations and at a gathering at the Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan provincial office, Hidayat-ur-Rehman said it is the state’s foremost constitutional responsibility to ensure the safety of people across the province, including its mountains, cities, highways, and villages.

He criticized the current role and policy of the Frontier Corps (FC) in Balochistan, claiming it had failed to improve the security situation. He called for the FC to be withdrawn from the province and urged the government to immediately accept what he described as the legitimate demands of the Ziarat sit-in protesters.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader said that despite heavy security deployments and significant spending on law and order, many residents still feel unsafe, adding that highways, markets, and public places remain vulnerable.

He also expressed concern over the economic impact of border closures, saying they have damaged trade, industry, and businesses while increasing unemployment among young people. He argued that the role of security institutions should be limited to protecting the lives and property of citizens rather than interfering in commercial activities.

Hidayat-ur-Rehman said Jamaat-e-Islami would continue to speak out against what it describes as injustice, enforced disappearances, insecurity, and economic exploitation in Balochistan. He demanded a transparent judicial inquiry into the Ziarat incident, called for those responsible to be brought to justice, and urged the authorities to provide immediate relief and justice to the affected families.

He reaffirmed his party’s commitment to pursuing democratic efforts for peace, justice, constitutional supremacy, and the protection of the rights of the people of Balochistan, while urging the public to support Jamaat-e-Islami’s campaign against injustice, corruption, and insecurity.
