Doctor Killed in Karachi Bank Robbery Near Clifton’s Teen Talwar; Robbers Escape with Rs2.5 Million

Karachi: A doctor was killed during an armed robbery near Teen Talwar in Clifton after gunmen opened fire on his car and escaped with Rs2.5 million in cash, police said.

According to police, the victim, identified as Dr. Akash, son of Seth Sero Mal, had withdrawn Rs5 million from a bank and was leaving the premises in his car when the robbery occurred within the jurisdiction of Frere Police Station.

Investigators said the armed suspects intercepted the vehicle near the bank. During the incident, the robbers managed to seize one bag containing Rs2.5 million, while another bag remained inside the car before the suspects fled the scene.

Dr. Akash sustained critical injuries during the exchange of gunfire and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.

CCTV footage of the incident reportedly shows one of the suspects running toward the vehicle, firing at a security guard, opening the car door, and grabbing a bag filled with cash. Police said the suspect picked up only one bag in haste, leaving the second bag behind.

According to preliminary police findings, the bank’s security guard also opened fire at the fleeing robbers, and investigators are examining whether the fatal bullet that struck Dr. Akash came during that exchange of gunfire.

Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho has taken notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South.

In a statement, the Sindh Police spokesperson said the IGP has directed authorities to conduct a transparent, impartial, and comprehensive investigation, determine the exact circumstances surrounding the killing, and ensure the immediate arrest of those involved.
