Former Balochistan CM Aslam Raisani Opposes Mastung’s Inclusion in Quetta Division

Quetta: Former Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani has strongly criticized the government’s decision to place Mastung district under Quetta Division, alleging that the move is an attempt to undermine the historical identity of the former State of Kalat.

In a statement reacting to the new administrative boundaries, Raisani said the issue was not merely the transfer of Mastung to Quetta Division but what he described as an effort to erase the Baloch identity associated with the historic State of Kalat.

Referring to the Instrument of Accession signed between Khan Mir Ahmad Khan of Kalat and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Raisani argued that the agreement contained provisions regarding the constitutional relationship between Kalat and Pakistan. He said that if the agreement was no longer considered significant, then, in his view, there would be little justification for commemorating Jinnah’s legacy.

Raisani said he and his supporters would not accept the administrative decision and criticized it as having been made without public consultation and against the wishes of the people of Mastung.

He announced that they would pursue peaceful and constitutional efforts to have Mastung restored to Kalat Division, while reiterating their opposition to the government’s decision.

The remarks reflect Nawab Aslam Raisani’s political views and interpretation of the historical agreement. The government has not responded to these statements in the material provided.
