Akhtar Mengal Criticizes Federal Government, Calls for Attention to Balochistan Issues

Islamabad: Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal strongly criticized the federal government during a joint press conference with leaders of the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen Pakistan alliance, accusing authorities of ignoring ongoing protests and the situation in Balochistan.

In a sarcastic remark directed at Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Mengal said the minister had “perhaps gone to New York to find an SHO who could deal with us,” suggesting that the government was failing to address domestic issues while focusing on international matters.

Mengal said that despite recent major incidents, the government had shown little interest in the protesters staging sit-ins. He argued that the authorities should first address challenges within the country before attempting to resolve international issues.

The BNP-M chief also alleged that incidents of violence, arrests, and political detentions continue in Balochistan, saying such developments have become a regular occurrence. He urged the state to demonstrate genuine commitment to resolving the issues facing Balochistan, Kashmir, and the country as a whole through dialogue and meaningful engagement.

Referring to legal cases involving opposition figures, Mengal questioned the accountability process, mentioning jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and others, including Mahrang Baloch, Ali Wazir, and Iman Mazari. He argued that while political figures face legal action, those responsible for violating the Constitution have not been held accountable.

Mengal reiterated that lasting stability would require the government to address political grievances and uphold constitutional principles.
