Going to Court to Delay Local Elections Is an Escape Tactic, Government Performance Is Zero: Maulana Abdul Wasay

**Loralai (Daily Qudrat):** Provincial Ameer of **Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI)** and Senator **Maulana Abdul Wasay** has strongly criticized the move by certain political parties to approach the court for the postponement of **Quetta’s local government elections scheduled for December 28**, calling it an attempt to flee from the electoral process.

Talking to the media in Loralai, Maulana Abdul Wasay said that local body elections must be held on time and that political competition should take place in the political arena, not in courts. He stated that the overall performance of the government is **unsatisfactory and effectively zero**, with a visible lack of good governance in every sector.

He pointed out that **unemployment is widespread**, there is a **severe water crisis** in Quetta and across the province, and people are being forced to migrate due to the worsening living conditions. He emphasized that JUI believes in **ideological politics** and does not pursue power for the sake of office, but enters assemblies to safeguard Islamic values.

Referring to constitutional matters, Maulana Abdul Wasay said that his party had **conditionally supported the 26th Constitutional Amendment**, but **rejected the 27th Amendment** as being against the true spirit of the 1973 Constitution. He stressed that no field marshal or president can be above the Constitution and law, and that granting immunity violates both the Constitution of Pakistan and the basic principles of Islam. “We are accountable to Allah and to the people,” he said.

He questioned the government’s haste in making overnight amendments to the 1973 Constitution, adding that the Constitution has historically not been followed, as every military dictator and their allied governments have trampled upon it. He said democracy cannot be strengthened in the country unless **interference by powerful quarters comes to an end**.

Maulana Abdul Wasay announced that JUI would launch a **movement for the supremacy of the Constitution, law, and Parliament**, and would engage in dialogue with all political parties. He termed the current parliament and government as a **‘Form-47 government’**, stating that its constitutional and legal legitimacy is widely questioned and therefore unacceptable.

He warned that as long as the present government remains in power, the country will continue to face **political instability, unrest, terrorism, unemployment, lawlessness, and economic crises**. He said that **Maulana Fazlur Rehman** has the ability to steer the country out of the current crisis.

Criticizing selective accountability, he said the country is full of corruption but action against only **Imran Khan** is unjust. He demanded **immediate general elections under a truly independent Election Commission** to ensure free and fair polls, warning that otherwise Pakistan would sink deeper into political turmoil.

He concluded by stating that JUI believes in resolving political issues through dialogue and rejects violence in all forms, asserting that accountability will ultimately be carried out by the people and the rule of law.
