Family of Slain Ziarat Police Officer Claims They Raised Funds to Transport Body After No Ambulance Was Provided

Quetta: The family of a Balochistan Police officer killed in the recent Ziarat attack has claimed they had to collect donations to transport his body to his hometown after allegedly receiving no government ambulance following the completion of legal formalities.

According to the family, Police Constable Akbar Sherani, who was killed in the terrorist attack, was the sole brother of seven sisters and was due to be married next week before losing his life in the line of duty.

The family said the body was initially transported by a government ambulance from Ziarat to Civil Hospital Quetta, where legal procedures were completed. They later brought the coffin to the Coal Phatak protest site, where relatives of other victims were holding a sit-in to press their demands.

The relatives alleged that after the protest ended, no ambulance or official transport was provided by the Balochistan government or the health department to take the body back to Ziarat. They claimed they received no assistance from the relevant authorities.

According to the family, they collected donations from local residents and hired a vehicle for approximately Rs30,000 to transport the body to Ziarat, where the slain officer was buried with official honors.

The family expressed disappointment, saying that the relatives of personnel who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty should receive full state support, including assistance with funeral arrangements and transportation.

Local residents have called on the government to investigate the family’s claims, if found to be accurate, identify those responsible, and ensure that the families of fallen personnel do not face similar difficulties in the future.

The claims regarding the lack of official transport have been made by the victim’s family and had not been independently verified or officially responded to by the relevant authorities at the time of reporting.
