Quetta Bar Association Announces Strike, Terms Hanna Urak Attack a Government Failure

Quetta: The Quetta Bar Association has strongly condemned the recent armed attack in the Hanna Urak area, describing it as a reflection of the government’s failure to maintain law and order in Balochistan.

In a joint statement, the association’s office-bearers, led by President Aurangzeb Kakar, expressed condolences to the families of those killed, injured, and reportedly abducted in the attack. They prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, the safe return of the abducted individuals, and strength for the affected families.

The association said the increasing incidents of terrorism and the threats to citizens’ lives and property were deeply alarming, urging the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety as a matter of priority.

The statement also raised concerns over what it described as inadequate security measures for courts in Quetta despite reported security threats in recent days. It stressed that courts are central to the administration of justice and that any compromise on their security is unacceptable.

The Quetta Bar Association called on the federal and provincial governments to immediately arrest those responsible for the Hanna Urak attack, conduct a transparent investigation, and enhance security for courts, lawyers, and litigants in Quetta.

Warning of further protest if effective measures are not taken to restore law and order and improve court security, the association announced a complete strike on Tuesday, July 7, and urged the legal community to participate in the protest.

The association’s statements regarding the security situation and the Hanna Urak attack reflect its position. Authorities have not publicly responded to all of the claims made in the statement.
